Retriever

Filed under: Other News - mel @ 12:41 pm

We often bump into this adorable retriever in town. It’s so charming that we just can’t stop looking and adoring it every single time. It’s owner often feeds him with cabbage leaves as treat haha. It reminds us of our basset back home. Miss you lots, Lady. Can’t wait to give you a cuddle.

Rose ‘Plague’

Filed under: Other News - mel @ 1:33 pm

What’s the best thing about spring/summer? The colours of the surrounding of course and that includes plants, trees, flowers and the humans who love dressing in rainbow colours :p Our maisonette is fortunately ‘infected’ with rose ‘plague’. Nothing gotta do with my green fingers, it’s just the perfect weather that encourages the bloom. See below from L to R :

1. This is what we see when we open our front door.

2. This is what we see when we look up the sky from our entrance.

3. This is what we see when we turn to look at our neighbour’s.

4. And finally, this is what we see at our doorstep. It’s roses left right and centre! p/s the unit above is not ours.

TITANIC, closer to home

Filed under: Other News - eng @ 10:16 am

I read the local news Woking Review the other day and this article ‘Letter removes stigma from Titanic Survivor’ caught my eyes.

A TITANIC survivor’s name has been exonerated after a letter clearing him of wrongdoing was put up for sale at the Christie’s in London.
Sir Cosmos Duff-Gordon, burried at Brookwood Cementery after his death in 1931, was tainted as a coward after escaping from the sinking ship in lifeboat number one with his wife and her secretary…

The article shows a picture of Sir Cosmos Duff-Gordon’s grave in Brookwood.

Brookwood is only 1 train station away from Woking and about 3 miles from where we live.

I am quite fascinated by the fact that the TITANIC event has such a close link to where we live.

Wonder what would the people in Melaka feel if some old time Melaka stories were to be made into blockbuster? ie … the Legendary Hang Tuah :)

A mum and a dying son

Filed under: Other News - eng @ 8:49 pm

I was deeply touched and in tears looking at these photos (cited from Jeffooi). The photographer won an award for her intimate portrayal of a single mother and her young son as he loses his battle with cancer. Warn you, it is very very despressing.

Can you ever imagine how strong a mother can be ?

What is wrong with Maybank2u?

Filed under: Other News - eng @ 7:50 pm

I have been getting this message many times this week. Do they bring the system offline during Malaysia midnight time?

Another annoying thing is that, the Website doesn’t tell you in advance about the system down time on the login page, so you don’t need to bother login in. So many times I entered the username and password only to find out that the System is unavailable.

GreedyBasset will stay away from politics

Filed under: Other News - eng @ 9:33 pm

After much thoughts and considerations, I have decided to stop blogging politics related posts here. Not that I have received dead threat from anyone, (they are probably busy looking at those big time politics bloggers) neither I am frightened by the Government’s statement that they might be looking to register blogger (another bullsh*t).
I just very much feel that this place is best to be kept as the place it was before, post about Cameron’s growth, what we have gone through, cooking, our holidays, photos etc. Having my politics thoughts between these posts will just spoil the whole mood and don’t look right at all. Furthermore, I hate to see Cameron’s pics stand among these crooks.
Meanwhile, I need to channel my grieves elsewhere. I will find a new place to whine and to mourn about politics. A new place where I can use the words I have at the back of my mind the moment when I read my dailies.

GreedyBasset is 1 year old !

Filed under: Other News - eng @ 9:55 pm

Time flies. It has been 1 year since we started this blog. I can still recall the late nights we have spent preparing the content and decorating the site around this time last year. It all started when we returned from our memorable trip from Sweden, so wonderful that we wanted to record our journey and experience in words to be remembered and shared. Since then, this site has been our place to express thoughts on various things, funny little stuffs that we have done and of cause the moments of joy with Cameron!

In summary, the Blog has helped me to understand

– Like the old saying: Starting something is easy but maintaining is not. I agree with that and I will try different ways to renew my interest to continue to update this site. I have learnt to treat it as an interest rather than responsibility.

- As what the Zorror-UnMasked said: Write to express and not to Impress. I will remind myself time to time not to worry about what people would think after reading the post. Well, matured readers would acknowledge the differences in individual and thoughts.

- I felt that I have benefit from blogging. Example, I now know a little bit of CSS style sheet as I re-decorate the Look and Feel of the site. I am slightly more political aware and would remember issues (or name, especially some idiot minister) better as I blog on political related issues.

Lastly I find the blog useful as a collection of information that I am interested or worth posting. These will come in very handy when I need them in future.

There are few more advantages that I have felt personally, so if you have not started blogging… you may be missing out some of these.

Filed under: Other News - eng @ 12:07 pm

I am giving this GreedyBasset a new look in these coming days/weeks. Have been saying it for months!

Please bear with me and don’t be alarmed if you see anything unusual (ie Cameron’s picture shows up in Badawi blasting posts).

BTW, the idea of only paying £41 to fly from London - KL is really thrilling (providing the fuel charge/taxes are not over killing)

Good Bye Ikea Armchair

Filed under: Other News - engbyemail @ 10:38 am

I am blogging this thru outlook email again…and hope that the URL and the picture will be displayed correctly

For those who have been to our house in USJ StarVille and USJ6, you may have noticed a Blue Ikea Arm Chair.

If you have had the honour of sitting on that chair, you may be delighted to know that it has been sold through EBAY to a bloke in UK. But the bloke obviously picked up a very good bargain as it was auctioned at the price of £0.99! I am only getting about £0.77 after all the fees (celaka paypal).

It was hard to part after almost 5 yrs of ownership, but it was even harder to let go at that price!

argh… the pic didn’t show up, i had to edit it from blogsome… -eng

Month end !

Filed under: Other News - eng @ 8:59 pm

Hehe I have compiled Cameron’s weight in a chart, have a look !!

Mel has done really well !! Looking at the rate, I don’t think he is far from becoming a Michelin baby

On the other hand… Our CI has not done well…

Luckily I managed to cash out all my shares and half of my unit trust before CNY. Although not making lots of profit, but I am quite happy that I’ve hit the right timing this time… -eng

Which country has the highest child well being standard?

Filed under: Other News - eng @ 9:15 am

Base on UNICEF study of children well being standard in 40 rich nations, Netherlands tops the table and guess who is sitting on the far end ? It’s United Kingdom!

UK’s ranking has been dragged down mainly by child poverty, drinking, smoking and teenage pregnancies.

Btw, I have also noticed that UK’s war comrade in Mid East, United States is also bottom in the list. Perhaps they have been spending too much money in war affairs in foreign lands and not children’s welfare in their own land. -eng

Let it snow….

Filed under: Other News - mel @ 10:30 am

Finally, let it snow..let it snow..let it snow….Winter has arrived! We were greeted with blankets of snow this morning…Below are the pix taken from our house. Eng’s car was covered with it. It’s beautiful and somehow it gives me the calming effect, so I’m in a pretty good mood this morning. Since early Dec, everyone thought that UK will not get proper winter this year as daffodils sprung and temperature was higher than usual due to global warming. But looks like the severity of the weather changes is not at extreme stake yet which is debatable (gauging by the severe flood in Johor), but then again it’s good that the first world countries are attempting to counter global warming before it brings too much agony to the future generation - mel.
