Appetite - 25th June 2006 (8th week)

Filed under: 9 Months Project - mel @ 3:00 pm

This was my experience on my 8th week but thought it is worth sharing. For those who know me well, I’ve never been picky with food, in fact I always have enormous interest in all sorts of food and I can eat a lot…haha so much for my size :p However, the progress of this pregnancy has totally changed my appetite. I get sick by the thought of food and if possible, don’t feel like eating at all. Arrrggghhh conflict of interest I must say. It has been quite tricky dealing with it as most of the time, I do not know what I prefer to eat. I’ve never been a fan of fast food pizza but last Friday, just had the urge for it. So Eng ordered pizza, chicken wings and garlic bread from Pizza Hut. It did overly satisfied my yearn but vow I will not eat it for the rest of the year. My nose is getting super sensitive and I can sniff out the slightest scent of BO even within a few meters apart. So, beware!

UPM violence

Watch the clip here

It was a disgrace!

It is a place to pursue higher learning but the University has turned it into a back alley with groups of SAMSENG! The authority has failed to provide a basic environment for the students and incapable of maintaining minimum level of intellectual and moral standard in the student intakes.

Now the international affairs deputy vice-chancellor Prof Dr Radin said something in today’s newpaper. A very unfortunate incident… Think we need to teach this Prof what is unfortunate incident!

When you walk out of your house and being struck by lightning that is unfortunate incident. When you step on a nail and hurt your toe that is unfortunate incident.

But when you are being robbed of your belongings that is not unfortunate incident! When your car being deliberately dented by your neighbor, that is not unfortunate ! Somebody will have to be accountable for that. You don’t console yourself by saying ‘ahh.. what to do.. being with these kinda neighbor, too bad then’.

Also he said “I was made to understand that a number of boys involved had just finished a rugby game and were probably pumped up because of this,”

hahaha i can’t stop laughing… what if we turn the table around where these victimized students have just finished their martial art classes ?!?! So, it’s ok if these 50 bullies being wreck to the ground …. what to do ..being pumped up a little after the kung-fu class

Anyway … I am just skeptical of what our university has become. These are the type of the people who would go berserk in the street during street demonstration (like in Jakarta). They will not hesitate to burn cars, raid shops, hurt the weak and people of other races when they are in groups causing property loses and casualties. Also these are the people who will be easily influenced by political motived crooks to initiate something similar to 513 incidents! Haven’t we learn from history? and still we are cultivating…

Again, this incident has proven that the decision to send children to overseas and private colleges is the right choice. -eng

Special ‘Sang Har Meen’

Filed under: Food Talk - mel @ 7:33 pm

We bought a pack of prawns from the supermart yesterday….just 4 pathetic medium sized prawns which cost us £1.50, so about RM2.50 per piece (still can’t help doing the mental conversion in RM). Anyway, the prawns better be good man. We hardly buy seafood here due to the lack of freshness and taste. Wanted to cook prawn mee but it was just too much hassle and we do not have the ingredients for chilli. Hence, settled for ‘Sang Har Meen’ (Fresh Water Prawns Noodles) instead. The usual ingredients would be Wan Tan Mee and prawns stock but I replaced those with spaghetti and pork stock respectively. It turned out that the noodles and gravy are tastier than the prawns duh! Will try it with the proper Wan Tan Mee next time. - mel.

Oriental Cravings + Side Events

Filed under: Events & Travels - mel @ 12:59 pm

I was craving for roasted duck for the past 2 weeks. Finally, we made a trip to China Town on Saturday and ordered the routine dishes - ’siew yuk’ (roasted pork), tofu and of course the roasted duck (and also the side dish - chilli oil). Even managed to take-away some ‘lou poh peng’ (pastries) for tea. YUMMMM Satisfied at last! After lunch, we headed for the summer sales (not as good as the winter sales) at Oxford Street and witnessed this Christian parade along the way. Don’t really know what’s the specific agenda though.

On our way home, we came across this amazing hand-painted artwork on the floor tiles near the London Eye. The artist was putting on the finishing touches on the 6-weeks work. Such sight is common in London and the fine talents of the respective "homeless artists" are pretty remarkable. I’m sure they will be successful and not remain homeless if their work were to be commercialised - mel.

Building Temperature

Filed under: Nation Gossips - mel @ 7:19 pm

Yesterday I was so thankful that my office has air conditioning. But today, I received a communication stating that the air conditioning system is designed to cope with external air temperatures of up to 28 degrees C. On the few occasions when it exceeds this temperature the system has trouble coping. huh? HELLLLPPPPP!!!! Staffs are asked to close blinds to minimise heat gain. I hope it will only last for a few weeks (that’s the norm) but it’s unpredictable due to global warming. Weather throughout the world is changing. Developed countries are the main ones contributing to this dilemma and they are also the ones who are trying to save the world. We are constantly being educated to conserve energy in households, use the public transportation in order to reduce vehicles on the road so that pollution and congestion can be mitigated and oil companies constantly researching and producing greener oil products. If everyone in the affected country has the same mentality, it might alleviate the ailing mother earth. Was looking forward towards improvement of public transportation in KL (after all the promises and assurance) but with the current "heated arguments" between the leaders, don’t think plans will progress as quickly as expected - mel.

Heat Wave

Filed under: Nation Gossips - Administrator @ 7:21 pm

Yes I pronounce myself a genuine Malaysian but I can declare it’s heat wave here in England. Though we’ve not gone through the hottest days of summer yet but it’s hot enough to kill my head! Since Sat, I’ve been suffering from endless headaches due to the stuffiness, low humidity, still air, heat in the 26-30 degrees..I’m gonna go on complaining. This is worse than KL during CNY (which I think is the hottest period of the year) and almost like Arizona the dessert, though not as bad. I used to think that those who claimed Europe to suffer heat wave were being ironic but not until I’m experiencing it myself. The effect of 30 degrees is worse than KL as it is dry here. The sun is constantly burning my skin…OUCH!!!! This weather is insane and my head is still being hammered. The sun is up from 5am to 9.30 pm this whole summer and I’m trying to avoid it as much as possible. If you intend to tour Europe, I would recommend late Spring early Summer (Apr-June) to make the best of the daytime or Dec-Mar to experience a proper Winter. Summer here would be like any other country in Asia, unless you really like the heat. Most of the offices and homes here do not have fans or air-conds installed…luckily our offices do have air-conditioning. At home, we’ve put our "buatan Malaysia" table fan into good use. Yes we shipped it all the way from KL…free shipping mah. No regrets, it is our life saver - mel.

Grease

Filed under: Events & Travels - Administrator @ 11:03 am

We watched the Grease musical at the New Victoria Theatre Woking last night (during the BRA:FRA match). I think this was staged in KL last year but by different casts. We first watched a musical (Pantomime - Alladin) at this theatre during Christmas last year. The auditorium is situated approximately 5 minutes from where we live and they have regular stage performances. Good for me :D I watched this movie more than 5 times when I was a kid, so the songs were not unfamiliar to me. It was a great show although Danny (aka John Trovolta) was a bit stiff in his dances. I was looking for more energy in the dancing like Saturday Night Fever which I fully recommend anyone watching - mel.

WC Anti-Climax

Filed under: Other News - Administrator @ 9:48 am

Firstly, I was so upset that Spain was knocked-out and 2006 being the last WC match for all-time favourite Raul. Now there goes the 2 most favourite teams being defeated on the same day! We were amazed to watch the determined England fought with 10 men all the way to PSO but couldn’t help feeling devastated after they lost. But what the heck, there’s still Brazil to look forward to in the finals and we were so so wrong when it has to be double whammy for Brazil to exit as well!!!! This ends the WC interest and we can resume to our normal life..who cares who wins..think it’s gonna be the host country anyway - mel.
